Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal yoga in Northern VAPrenatal Yoga is a safe and supportive class of modified yoga postures for the changing body of expecting mothers, a time to go in and connect with oneself and your baby as well as with a community of mothers-to-be.

Classes begin with a centering meditation to quiet your mind and bring focus to your body and growing baby. Then we move into pranayama (breathing exercises), stretching, strength building, and balancing postures to prepare your body and mind for the journey towards giving birth. We finish the yoga session with deep restful relaxation. Each class is a unique experience tailored to all stages of pregnancy.

Why Do Prenatal Yoga?

  • Build strength and balance as your body changes and adapts to your growing baby and prepares for birth as well as your strength needs post birth.
  • Learn breathing techniques to help calm and center, maximize oxygen flow, and aide in pain management in labor and birth.
  • Relieve aches and pains by strengthening the muscles that support your growing baby, taking pressure off the lower back, particularly good for irritation of the sciatic nerve.
  • Learn to quiet your mind and body and relieve anxiety in a calm atmosphere and relaxing environment.
  • Bond with your growing baby in a communal class meeting other expectant moms to share in the specialness of pregnancy.
